Fish. Fillet. Feast. A New Fish-Themed Event for the Yorkshire Coast

Fish. Fillet. Feast. A New Fish-Themed Event for the Yorkshire Coast

The Yorkshire Coast has long been associated with fishing. In recent years though, this once thriving industry has dwindled - leaving only a handful of trawlers and smaller fishing vessels working out of the North East's fishing ports on a regular basis.

Living near Whitby, and with Saltburn, Staithes, Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Robin Hood's Bay all within easy reach we have seen the decline in the fishing industry over the years and the impact it has had on the community. Which is why are pleased to see this even being organised this summer - hopefully bringing some fresh enthusiasm for locally caught fish back to Yorkshire's coastal communities.

Taking place on Saturday 18th June between 11am and 7pm in the following locations, Fish.Fillet.Feast! will be a wonderful event for everyone to enjoy - locals and visitors, young and old alike. It looks like there'll be plenty going on at each of the locations - so take your pick. Or perhaps you'll be able to visit more than one location within the day, experiencing this unique event in more than one of Yorkshire's beautiful towns and villages!

Here's some more information, direct from the North York Moors National Park website:

Saltburn – Staithes – Runswick Bay - Sandsend - Robin Hood’s Bay

  • See fishermen at work, and watch the chefs preparing tasting dishes straight from the barbecue
  • Get creative at our special workshops – knitting, lantern-making, painting and beach sculpture, all with a fishy twist
  • Hear maritime tales and songs of the sea from our traditional storytellers and fishermen’s choirs – let the ‘Salmon of Knowledge’ tell your future!
  • Discover fish sculptures, street performers, photography exhibitions, open studios, arts & crafts inspired by the coast

Fish. Fillet. Feast! is a day-long event, organised by Scarborough-based arts development company Create on behalf of the North York Moors National Park, as part of the Coastal Communities Fund ‘Sea Life, See Life’ project.

Most events are free of charge and suitable for all the family! Please note that some events will be weather dependent.

Timings of events will vary and there will be different activities happening in each village. More details to follow shortly. For more information please email contact@create.uk.net or 01723 384545.

It sounds like it's going to be a fantastic day, so make sure you put a note in your diary and don't miss it!

Thanks for reading,

Phil and Dee
