Whitby’s remaining railway connection heads north, winding its way through the Esk Valley towards Middlesbrough where the line terminates. This is fine for a leisurely trip through some of Yorkshire’s finest scenery, and it serves the local schools well too, but it’s not great for rail journeys in other directions.
However, the Cinder Track as it is now known continues to be well used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders as it winds its way between Whitby and Scarborough.Read More

Sleights is just a couple of miles from it’s mouth at Whitby and is the perfect place from which to explore the route of the Esk - as it runs past the villages and hamlets of the Esk Valley.Read More

It would be easy to pass through Sleights without giving it much thought - or miss it altogether depending on which direction you’re travelling to the Yorkshire Coast from.
But there’s more to our little village than meets the eye. And in fact, it’s a great location from which to enjoy this part of the country without having to cope of the crowds of Whitby.
