Whitby’s remaining railway connection heads north, winding its way through the Esk Valley towards Middlesbrough where the line terminates. This is fine for a leisurely trip through some of Yorkshire’s finest scenery, and it serves the local schools well too, but it’s not great for rail journeys in other directions.
However, the Cinder Track as it is now known continues to be well used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders as it winds its way between Whitby and Scarborough.

Were you in Yorkshire for Le Tour de Yorkshire this year? They’re already accepting entries for the 2017 race, and it seems it will become a permanent fixture in the international cycling calendar. And we couldn’t be happier - the course has run right past our front door for the last two years!
